# Explore a Metric Explorer data point with Microscope

Microscope opens when you click a data point on a Metric Explorer chart. It acts on the users or groups behind that one point, for that metric and interval. Use it to move from a number on the chart to the people behind it: who they are, what they did next, what their sessions looked like, and how to act on them.

## Open Microscope on a data point

1. Hover over the series you want to inspect. On a busy chart, clear the other series in the breakdown table first to make clicking easier.
2. Click a data point. The Microscope menu opens with the actions available for that metric.

## Microscope actions in Metric Explorer

| Action | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Zoom In** | Re-queries the chart at the next finer interval for the clicked period. For example, a day becomes 24 hourly points. |
| **View Users** | Lists the users in the data point. Click a user to open their profile. |
| **Download Users** | Downloads the users in the data point as a CSV file, up to 1 million users, with their most recent user property values. |
| **Show Journeys** | Opens the top paths that users in the data point took, starting from the metric's event. |
| **Watch Session Replays** | Opens session replays for the users in the data point. Requires Session Replay. |
| **Create Cohort** | Saves the users in the data point as a cohort, with the chart's event, segment, and clicked date in the cohort description. |
| **Add Users to…** | Adds the users to a Web Experiment, Feature Experiment, Feature Flag, Guide, or Survey. Amplitude creates a cohort from the data point and opens the target. |
| **View Groups** and **Download Groups** | Replace **View Users** and **Download Users** when the chart counts by a group, such as accounts, instead of users. Requires [account-level reporting](https://amplitude.com/docs/analytics/account-level-reporting). |

## Which metrics offer which actions

The actions depend on the type of metric you click:

- **Event metrics and session metrics**: The actions in the table. For a session metric, the users are those whose sessions make up the point.
- **Formulas**: A formula's value comes from several metrics, so it has no single set of users. To inspect the users behind a formula, turn on **Show in results** for one of its input metrics and click a point on that input.
- **KPI visualization**: **Download Users**, **Create Cohort**, and **Show Journeys**.

Actions that list users are unavailable on points with a value of zero.

## Find users who abandoned a cart

This example turns a session metric into a reusable audience:

1. Add `Add to Cart` measured as **Total Sessions**, with **+ Filter by** > **\[Amplitude\] Contains Event** > `Purchase` **=** 0.
2. Click the point for the day you want to inspect.
3. Click **Create Cohort** and name the cohort, for example `Abandoned cart: last 7 days`.
4. Use the cohort as a segment in other charts, or click the point again and use **Add Users to…** > **Guide** to show those users a reminder.
