A funnel chart helps you see where users drop off in a key journey so you can pinpoint conversion problems and focus improvements on the step that matters most.

## Questions a funnel can answer

- What percentage of users complete checkout from `Add to Cart` to `Complete Purchase`?
- At which step are users abandoning my onboarding flow?
- How has my signup-to-activation rate changed over the last 90 days?
- Do mobile users convert at a different rate than desktop users?

## Build your first funnel

It starts with a question to Global Agent. Follow the walkthrough step by step.

1. **Ask Global Agent**

Click the link to prompt Global Agent in a new tab. You must be signed in to Amplitude.

   [Open in Amplitude →](https://app.amplitude.com/signup?aiQuery=Make%20a%20funnel%20chart%20showing%20the%20primary%20conversion%20funnel.%20At%20which%20step%20do%20most%20users%20drop%20off%3F)

2. **Review the funnel it built**

Check the steps and their order match the path you care about (for example, `Add to Cart` → `Checkout` → `Complete Purchase`). Tweak any event inline.

3. **Set the window and segment**

Adjust how long users have to convert, then break the funnel down (for example, mobile versus desktop) to compare who makes it through.

4. **Find your biggest drop-off**

Read the steepest step, then ask Global Agent a follow-up to understand why.

Suggested prompt: "Why did conversion drop?"

5. **Act on what you found**

Save the dropped-off users as a cohort to target, or dig deeper into where they went using the Journeys chart.

## What the result looks like

**Sample funnel chart showing conversion from Add to Cart through to Complete Purchase:** [https://app.amplitude.com/analytics/share/embed/93d78aa0-0bcc-4771-81d0-aaeefe37a3e5](https://app.amplitude.com/analytics/share/embed/93d78aa0-0bcc-4771-81d0-aaeefe37a3e5)

This is a sample funnel. Yours looks similar but uses your own events and data, so the steps and numbers differ.

## Funnels measure a path you already know

Already know the path and want the numbers? Funnels is your chart. Still discovering how users move? Pathfinder maps the routes they actually take. Comparing how groups travel between two points? Journey Map.

### [Funnel Analysis](https://amplitude.com/docs/analytics/charts/funnel-analysis/funnel-analysis-build)

You know the path but want the numbers of where users drop off, and how many.

### [Pathfinder](https://amplitude.com/docs/analytics/charts/journeys/journeys-understand-visualizations)

Explore how users navigate without defining the path first, then measure what you find.

### [Journey Map](https://amplitude.com/docs/analytics/charts/journeys/journeys-understand-visualizations)

Compare how different groups move between two events and where their paths diverge.

Pathfinder and Journey Map are two visualizations of the same Journeys chart, each suited to answer different questions.
