# Comment on session replays

> For AI agents: a documentation index is available at [/docs/llms.txt](/docs/llms.txt). Append `.md` to any page URL for markdown, or send `Accept: text/markdown`.

Use the _Session Comments_ tab in the replay viewer to discuss a recording, flag a moment, or hand off an investigation. Comments form a flat thread ordered from oldest to newest, with each comment's author, timestamp, and text. To send a replay without adding a comment, [share its URL](https://amplitude.com/docs/session-replay/share-replays).

Commenting requires the same permission as viewing the replay. Comments support plain text, up to 2,000 characters each.

## Add a comment

1. Open a replay and select **Session Comments** in the side panel.
2. Enter your comment in the text field.
3. To link to a moment, select **Add current timestamp**, or type a timestamp in brackets, such as `[00:10]`. Amplitude inserts a clickable badge that seeks the player to that second.
4. To notify a teammate, type `@` and choose a name from the typeahead. You can mention multiple people in one comment.
5. Select **Post**.

Amplitude notifies mentioned teammates through email, in-app, and Slack. You can also mention external users who have permission to view the replay, which sends them an invite.

## Edit or delete a comment

You can edit and delete only the comments you post.

- To edit your comment, select the edit action, change the text, then save.
- To delete your comment, select the delete action, then confirm.

## Track comment activity

The _All Activity_ tab collects your comment activity across replays. An unread badge marks new activity. Select an item to open its replay and jump to the related comment. Selecting a comment notification opens the replay and highlights the comment.

## Comment and replay persistence

Commenting doesn't automatically bookmark the replay. To save a replay for the configured bookmark retention period, follow [Bookmark session replays](https://amplitude.com/docs/session-replay/bookmarkable-session-replays).

Comments persist after the replay's retention window expires. The comment remains, but the replay shows as no longer available.
