## What is a funnel chart?

A funnel chart shows a sequence of stages where each stage contains a subset of the one before: visitors become signups, signups become activated accounts, activated accounts become customers. This tool draws funnels the way product analytics tools do — one bar per stage on a 0–100% axis, each labeled with its conversion rate from the first step and its raw count — because percentages make drop-off comparable across funnels of any size. The biggest drop between bars is where your process loses the most people, and where fixing it pays most.

## How to make a funnel chart

1. ### Import your CSV

One row per stage, in order, with a name and a count — like Stage,Users. Put the widest step first.

2. ### Check the order

Rows keep their file order, because funnel stages are a sequence, not a ranking.

3. ### Read the drop-off

Every stage is labeled with its conversion rate from the first step and its raw count, so the loss between steps reads at a glance.

4. ### Download or embed

Export the funnel as a PNG or JPG, or copy the static HTML embed for docs and wikis.

## When to use a funnel chart

- Conversion steps: marketing site to signup to activated account

- Sales pipelines, checkout flows, and onboarding sequences

- Making the size of each drop-off impossible to miss

When not to: Funnels need sequential stages where each row is a subset of the one before. For categories that don’t flow into each other, use a bar chart instead.

## Charts that update themselves

A chart from a CSV is a snapshot. Amplitude charts read straight from your product’s data — funnels, retention, and trends that stay current without another export. Plans start free.

## Frequently asked questions

### What data shape does a funnel chart need?

One row per stage, in order, with a stage name and a count — like Stage,Users. The rows keep their file order, so put the widest step first.

### How many steps can the funnel show?

Up to six stages. More steps than that squeeze into unreadable slivers, so the tool caps it and tells you when rows are trimmed.

### Can I track a live funnel instead of a static one?

A funnel from a CSV is a snapshot. Amplitude the platform computes funnels directly from your product’s event data, keeps them current, and lets you segment them by any user property. Plans start free.

### How do I calculate the conversion rate between funnel steps?

The chart does the overall math for you: every stage is labeled with its percentage of the first step. For step-to-step conversion, divide a stage’s count by the previous stage’s count — both raw counts are printed under the percentages.

### Why are funnel stages drawn as bars instead of a funnel shape?

It matches how analytics tools like Amplitude draw funnels: each stage is a bar on a 0–100% axis showing conversion from the first step. Bars make the size of each drop-off easy to compare precisely; the tapering funnel shape looks nice but distorts proportions.

### Is it safe to chart internal conversion data here?

Yes. Funnel numbers are usually sensitive, so it matters that this tool never transmits them: your CSV is parsed locally and the chart is drawn in the page. Amplitude receives no part of the file.

## Why use this chart maker

### Create beautiful charts instantly

Every chart is drawn in Amplitude’s own palette and typography, the same ones behind our product. There is no theme to choose and no colors to adjust, so your data looks presentable the moment it lands.

### No signup or account needed

There is no signup, no login, and no paywall. Your CSV is parsed and charted entirely in your browser, so nothing is ever uploaded to Amplitude or saved on our side. You can chart data you would never paste into a website.

### Download or embed on the spot

Take a high-resolution PNG or JPG for a deck, the cleaned CSV, or a self-contained HTML snippet that drops into a doc or wiki. One click, no export queue.

## Make another kind of chart

Your data carries over, so switching type costs you nothing — no re-importing. Every chart below is drawn by the same tool, in Amplitude’s palette.

-

### [Line chart](/free-chart-maker/line-chart)

The default for trends over time. Use it for metrics like weekly active users, revenue, or signups by month.

-

### [Area chart](/free-chart-maker/area-chart)

A line chart with the space under it filled in. Good when the volume itself matters, not just the direction.

- ### [Stacked area chart](/free-chart-maker/stacked-area-chart)

Shows how parts add up to a whole over time, like traffic by channel or revenue by plan.

- ### [Bar chart](/free-chart-maker/bar-chart)

Compares amounts across categories. The right pick when your x-axis is a set of things, not a timeline.

- ### [Stacked bar chart](/free-chart-maker/stacked-bar-chart)

Category totals plus what each one is made of, in a single chart.

- ### [Horizontal bar chart](/free-chart-maker/horizontal-bar-chart)

A bar chart turned sideways. Use it for rankings or when category names are too long to fit under columns.

- ### [Pie chart](/free-chart-maker/pie-chart)

Share of a total at a single point in time. Works best with five or fewer slices, so this pie chart generator groups the rest into “Other” for you.

- ### [Donut chart](/free-chart-maker/donut-chart)

A pie chart with an open center. Same job as a pie, with a lighter look.

- Weekly actives

  435,500

  Total

  ### [KPI chart](/free-chart-maker/kpi-chart)

Turns each series into a headline number with its total and average, for when the figure matters more than the trend.
