Some numbers don’t need a chart. The KPI view turns each column of your CSV into a headline figure with its total and average, sized for a dashboard tile or a slide. Free, no signup, nothing uploaded.

Or paste rows straight from a spreadsheet. Your data stays in your browser — nothing gets uploaded.

## What is a KPI chart?

A KPI chart shows a measurement as a large number rather than a shape. There is no axis and no trend line, because the job is different: put the figure someone asked for where they cannot miss it. Dashboards use these as the top row, above the charts that explain the movement, and decks use them as the number a slide is built around. This tool draws one tile per series you pick, each showing the total across your rows and the average per row, colored to match the rest of your charts.

## How to make a KPI chart

1. ### Import your CSV

One row per period and one numeric column per metric, like Week,Analytics,Experiment. Drag the file in or paste rows from a spreadsheet.

2. ### Pick the KPI type

Choose KPI from the chart picker. There is no x-axis to configure — every series you select becomes its own tile.

3. ### Choose your metrics

Check up to five numeric columns. Each tile prints that column’s total and its average per row, so a shorter list keeps the numbers large.

4. ### Download or embed

Export the tiles as a PNG or JPG, or copy the HTML embed, where the figures are real text rather than an image.

## When to use a KPI chart

- Dashboard headline numbers: total signups, revenue this quarter, active accounts

- Slides where a single figure is the entire point

- Showing a handful of metrics side by side without building four separate charts

When not to: Questions about movement. A KPI tile flattens every row into one number, so if what matters is whether the metric is climbing, plot it as a line chart.

## Charts that update themselves

A chart from a CSV is a snapshot. Amplitude charts read straight from your product’s data — funnels, retention, and trends that stay current without another export. Plans start free.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a KPI chart used for?

Reporting a number that people need to see without interpretation — total revenue, weekly active users, signups this month. It is the tile at the top of a dashboard, above the charts that explain why the number moved.

### What does the KPI chart calculate?

For every series you select, the sum of all numeric values in that column and the average per row. Both are computed in your browser from the rows you loaded, so no formulas are needed on your side.

### How many KPIs can I show at once?

Up to five, matching the tool’s five-series limit. Fewer tiles means bigger numbers, which is usually the point of showing them this way.

### Is a KPI chart the same as a scorecard, metric card, or big number chart?

Yes. Those are all names for one figure displayed large with no axis. Different tools label it differently; the output is the same.

### Can I show a KPI and its trend in the same view?

Not in one export — switch to a line chart for the trend, or download both and place them side by side. Amplitude the platform keeps a live metric and its chart together, computed from your product’s event data.

### Can I embed a KPI chart on a page?

Yes. The embed is static HTML with the numbers as selectable text, so it renders in any CMS, stays sharp at any size, and needs no JavaScript.

### Where do the numbers I paste in actually go?

Nowhere but your own browser. Pasted rows are parsed in the page to compute the totals and averages on each tile, and neither the raw values nor the results are sent to Amplitude.

## Why use this chart maker

### Create beautiful charts instantly

Every chart is drawn in Amplitude’s own palette and typography, the same ones behind our product. There is no theme to choose and no colors to adjust, so your data looks presentable the moment it lands.

### No signup or account needed

There is no signup, no login, and no paywall. Your CSV is parsed and charted entirely in your browser, so nothing is ever uploaded to Amplitude or saved on our side. You can chart data you would never paste into a website.

### Download or embed on the spot

Take a high-resolution PNG or JPG for a deck, the cleaned CSV, or a self-contained HTML snippet that drops into a doc or wiki. One click, no export queue.

## Make another kind of chart

Your data carries over, so switching type costs you nothing — no re-importing. Every chart below is drawn by the same tool, in Amplitude’s palette.

-

### [Line chart](/free-chart-maker/line-chart)

The default for trends over time. Use it for metrics like weekly active users, revenue, or signups by month.

-

### [Area chart](/free-chart-maker/area-chart)

A line chart with the space under it filled in. Good when the volume itself matters, not just the direction.

- ### [Stacked area chart](/free-chart-maker/stacked-area-chart)

Shows how parts add up to a whole over time, like traffic by channel or revenue by plan.

- ### [Bar chart](/free-chart-maker/bar-chart)

Compares amounts across categories. The right pick when your x-axis is a set of things, not a timeline.

- ### [Stacked bar chart](/free-chart-maker/stacked-bar-chart)

Category totals plus what each one is made of, in a single chart.

- ### [Horizontal bar chart](/free-chart-maker/horizontal-bar-chart)

A bar chart turned sideways. Use it for rankings or when category names are too long to fit under columns.

- ### [Pie chart](/free-chart-maker/pie-chart)

Share of a total at a single point in time. Works best with five or fewer slices, so this pie chart generator groups the rest into “Other” for you.

- ### [Donut chart](/free-chart-maker/donut-chart)

A pie chart with an open center. Same job as a pie, with a lighter look.

- ### [Funnel chart](/free-chart-maker/funnel-chart)

Drop-off across sequential steps, like visit, signup, activation, purchase. The classic product analytics view.
