Find the right group of people

5 minutesBeginnerFor PMs & analysts

Ever want to find just your happiest customers, or the ones who left and never came back? A Cohort is a saved list of people who all did the same thing, or have the same trait. Build it once, reuse it anywhere in Amplitude.

Why it matters

Why cohorts matter

  • ·See your users in groups instead of one big crowd, so patterns are actually easy to spot.
  • ·Build a group once, then reuse it anywhere: charts, targeting, guides, even Experiments.
  • ·Answer real questions, like "What do my best customers do that everyone else doesn't?"

Three simple ways to use your first cohort

  • ·Find your power users: People who did an action a lot, like logging in every day this month.
  • ·Find people who might be slipping away: People who haven't done a key action in a while.
  • ·Find your newest users: People who signed up in the last 7 days.

Use Global Agent to build your cohort

Global Agent can build your cohort for you. Copy this prompt, then replace each bracketed placeholder with the details of the audience you want.

text
Include [users / groups] who [performed / did not perform] [event name] [number of times or frequency] within [time frame].

Additional filters you can use: [user, group, account, platform, geography, plan, or other property conditions]. Exclude [users or conditions to exclude]. Use a [rolling / fixed] time window of [time period].

The purpose of this cohort is [what I want to understand or do with this audience]. Before creating it, summarize the final cohort definition, identify any missing or ambiguous details, and ask me to confirm if needed. Once confirmed, create and save the cohort.
