Self-service data deletion in Amplitude

Self-service data deletion permanently removes specific events or properties from your Amplitude projects. You submit deletion requests directly, without contacting Amplitude Support. Use it to remove data you sent by mistake. For privacy law compliance (GDPR, CCPA), use the User Privacy API instead.

If you need to comply with end-user data deletion requests mandated by global privacy laws such as GDPR or CCPA, use Amplitude's User Privacy API. Self-service data deletion permanently removes specific data from your Amplitude projects. It's not designed for privacy law compliance.

Limitations

Self-service data deletion doesn't support custom events or transformed events. You can only delete raw events ingested directly into Amplitude.

Self-service data deletion requires Administrator privileges. After you submit a deletion request, you can't cancel it.

Submit a data deletion task

To delete your Amplitude data, create a task. Self-service data deletion supports events and properties.

When you delete events, Amplitude deletes all properties and property data associated with those events. When you delete properties, specify whether you want to limit deletion to properties attached to specific events, or to delete these properties for all events.

Add up to five clauses to each deletion task.

To create and submit a data deletion task, follow these steps:

Click the gear icon and navigate to Organization settings > Self Service Data Deletion.
Click New Deletion Task.
Name the task and specify the project holding the data you want to delete.
Under Time Range, set the beginning and ending dates for the data you want to delete. Amplitude bases times on server upload time, in UTC.
Under Delete, click Add events or properties.
From the dropdown, select the type of data you want to delete: an event, an event property, or a user property.
For events, select the specific events to delete. Amplitude deletes those events and all properties associated with them.
For properties, select the properties you'd like to delete, and specify whether you want to delete them for all events or specific events only. If you want to delete for specific events only, select them in the next drop-down that appears.
Click Next to move to the verification screen and then click Next to confirm.
Follow the instructions that appear and click Delete. You can't undo this action.

You can find the statuses of all existing tasks on the Home page. The speed at which Amplitude processes your deletion request depends on the current volume of requests.
