Monitor replays continuously with an agent
The Session Replay Agent watches your session replays on a recurring schedule and reports the behavioral patterns it finds. The agent samples replays within a funnel or event you choose and analyzes them for friction, navigation, and engagement patterns. It delivers findings with highlight-reel clips to your Agent Inbox, email, or Slack. Product managers, UX designers, and growth teams use it to monitor key flows without watching sessions one at a time.
Use continuous agent monitoring when you want ongoing coverage of a flow across many replays. After the agent flags a session for your review, you can investigate that specific session in the Session Replay viewer.
Why manual replay review doesn't scale
Watching replays one at a time works well for answering a specific question, but it has limits as a monitoring strategy:
- Volume: A busy flow can produce more replays in a day than a team can watch in a week, so manual review covers only a small, often unrepresentative slice.
- Inconsistency: Different reviewers notice different things, and review tends to happen only after a metric drops or a customer complains.
- Anecdotes over evidence: A single striking replay is hard to weigh against the rest of your traffic without knowing how many sessions share the same pattern.
- Missed issues: Reviewers look for the problems they already suspect, so issues nobody thought to check go unnoticed.
Benefits of monitoring replays with an agent
An agent that reviews replays on a schedule resolves the limits of manually reviewing replays.
Coverage at scale
During each run, the agent collects a representative sample of replays where your chosen funnel or event occurs, then analyzes them together. You get a cross-session view of how users move through a flow rather than a handful of individual impressions.
Proactive detection
The agent runs on the frequency (day and time) you configure. Regressions from a release, a redesign, or a third-party change surface in your next report instead of waiting for a support ticket or a dashboard review.
Fresh analytical angles each run
On scheduled runs, the agent acts like a product manager who explores your data without prior assumptions. It picks a different focus within your scope each time, such as friction detection, user journey mapping, or content engagement analysis. Over successive runs, this rotation covers questions your team might not have thought to ask.
Quantified, evidence-backed findings
Each finding includes the number and percentage of sessions it affects, the specific UI elements involved, and a highlight reel of clips that show the pattern. You can prioritize by impact and share the clips as evidence, rather than debating anecdotes.
Recommendations tied to your interface
The agent extracts page HTML and UI component context from sampled sessions, so its recommendations point to specific buttons, forms, and flows in your product. Teams can move from a finding to a concrete fix or experiment idea.
Findings delivered where your team works
Reports go to your Agent Inbox, email subscribers, or a connected Slack channel. You can share the agent so stakeholders across product, design, and engineering see the same findings. To investigate a finding or act on it, ask follow-up questions in Global Agent, which can create cohorts or launch experiments with your approval.
Agent monitoring compared with other replay tools
Session Replay offers several ways to find problems in replays:
| Approach | Best for |
|---|---|
| Session Replay viewer | Watching a specific user's session to understand exactly what happened. |
| Analyze frustration | Inspecting frustration signals like rage clicks and dead clicks within individual replays. |
| Friction Monitor | Ranking dead-click and error-click issues across sessions by impact and routing them. |
| Session Replay Agent | Recurring analysis of a funnel or event, with themed findings and recommendations. |
Agent monitoring complements these tools. Use the agent to identify where to look. Then use the viewer and frustration analysis to examine individual sessions in detail.
Get the most from agent monitoring
- Scope the agent to a flow that matters: Choose a funnel or key event tied to revenue or activation, such as signup, checkout, or a new feature's first use.
- Add focus instructions: Tell the agent what to watch for, such as a recent redesign, a new feature, or users who abandon their carts.
- Run one agent per critical flow: Separate agents keep each report focused and make findings easier to route to the owning team.
- Capture enough replays: The agent can only analyze sessions that Session Replay records. Review your sampling configuration or use targeted replay capture so the flows you monitor have enough replays.
Requirements and limitations
The agent requires Session Replay on your project. It analyzes replays within your retention window, so coverage depends on the replays you capture and keep.
The agent supports web apps, mobile WebView, and in-app browsers. It doesn't support native iOS and Android replays, because those replays don't include the element-level data the agent needs. For full details, refer to the Session Replay Agent platform compatibility.
