Segment operators

Amplitude segment filters use operators to evaluate property values, user behavior, and sessions. This reference lists the operators for each filter type. For how to add filters, refer to Create segments.
Property operators
Property filters support these operators:
isoris not: Include or exclude exact property values.containsordoes not contain: Include or exclude property values that contain a substring. These operators aren't case sensitive.starts withordoes not start with: Include or exclude property values that start with a prefix. These operators aren't case sensitive.set isorset is not: Include or exclude an exact array set. For example,Interests {=} Movies, Musicmatches only when the array contains exactlyMoviesandMusic. An array with onlyMoviesdoesn't match, and an array withSports,Movies, andMusicdoesn't match.set containsorset does not contain: Match arrays that contain all the selected values, or that don't contain all the selected values. Use these operators to find users who belong to multiple A/B test groups.- To exclude certain values from a property array, use
set does not contain. - With multiple values, these operators apply AND to the values. For example, with
set does not contain group A and group B, a user must be in neither group A nor group B to qualify for exclusion. To apply OR, use multipleset does not containfilters.
- To exclude certain values from a property array, use
glob matchorglob does not match: Match or exclude strings with a simple pattern syntax, like/org/*/chart/*, where*is a wildcard. Patterns like*[0-9]and[!a-z]*match values that end in a digit and values that start with a non-letter, respectively. For more information, refer to the Wikipedia article on glob patterns.- A single asterisk matches only non-
/characters. To match strings that contain/, use two asterisks. For example, to match all URLs in the formatwww.example.com/blogs/blog_idthat contain the word "blog", useglob matchwith**blog**.
- A single asterisk matches only non-
Multiple values
When you select multiple values in one operator, Amplitude applies OR to the values. For example, Country is United Kingdom, Japan matches events from the United Kingdom or Japan.
set is and set is not are the exception. These operators require an exact match on the entire set, so they don't apply OR to multiple values.
Users who performed operators
Users who performed filters support these operators:
- count: The number of times a user triggered the event. For example, users who triggered
Favorite Song or Videomore than five times in the last 30 days. - distinct property count: The number of distinct values of a property for the selected event.
- in each: Includes users who meet the event condition in each chart interval. For example, at least three downloads per week qualifies users separately for each week.
- during: Includes events triggered in the date range you choose. Use a fixed range between two dates or a rolling range like Last 30 Days.
- since: Includes events triggered since the date you choose.
- within: Includes events triggered within a set number of days of each user's first use.
Session operators
Sessions filters support these operators:
- contains event: Includes only sessions with at least one event that matches the conditions you set.
- with property: Filters sessions by the first or last non-null value of a property in the session. For example, use the first or last value of
Page Pathto filter to entry or exit pages. To filter on a property value at any point in the session, use contains event, select Any Event, then add the property filter. - duration: Filters sessions by length, for example, sessions longer than 30 seconds or shorter than 5 minutes.
