Billing and plans
This page covers questions about Amplitude's paid plans and how billing works. For an overview of plans and pricing, see the Pricing page.
The Plus plan is Amplitude's self-serve paid tier. Use the questions below to understand what's included, how billing works, and how to manage your subscription.
What's the difference between the Plus and Growth plans?
The Growth plan includes everything in Plus, plus:
- Unlimited cohorts
- Cart Analytics
- Conversion drivers
- Forecasting and anomaly detection
- Deeper behavioral insights (Impact Analysis, Engagement Matrix, Personas, and more)
- Custom metrics and templates
- SSO
- Custom data retention
- Onboarding and customer success
When does my subscription renew?
Your subscription renews automatically every 12 months on the annual plan, or the first of every month on the monthly plan.
What happens if I go over my quota?
The Plus plan uses pay-as-you-go pricing. If you exceed your included monthly tracked users (MTU) or event volume, Amplitude charges additional usage fees at the same per-unit rate as your plan price.
What is an MTU guardrail?
To maintain quality service and protect against unexpected surges, Amplitude applies a guardrail of an average of up to 1,000 events per MTU.
For example, a customer who purchases 10,000 MTUs can ingest up to 10,000 × 1,000 = 10M events in aggregate per month. Most customers never hit this limit. If you exceed it, Amplitude converts each additional 1,000 events (or portion thereof) to one MTU and charges at the same per-unit rate as your plan price.
What's the cancellation policy?
You can cancel your subscription at any time before your next renewal period. You keep access to your Plus plan until the end of your current subscription period.
For more about MTUs and billing, see the MTU guide.
How do I turn off automatic renewal?
Go to Settings → Organization Settings → Plans & Billing → Manage Billing to cancel your subscription. This option is available to the user who originally made the purchase, and to all admins in the organization.
What terms apply to my purchase and use of the Plus plan?
Amplitude's Terms of Service, as amended and supplemented by the Plus Plan terms, apply.
Who can help me with billing and invoice questions?
For billing and invoice questions, email plusbilling@amplitude.com.
The Startup Scholarship is a temporary plan that gives qualifying startups one year of the Growth plan at no cost. To apply, visit the Startups page. For questions about your application or plan, email scholarship@amplitude.com.
What is the Startup Scholarship plan?
Amplitude has four main plan types: Enterprise, Growth, Plus, and Starter. The Scholarship plan is an additional, temporary plan for startup customers — one year of the Growth plan at no cost.
How do I apply?
Apply on the Startups page.
What are the eligibility criteria?
To qualify, your company must meet both criteria:
- Less than $10 million in funding
- Fewer than 20 employees
What's included?
You get 200,000 MTUs — more than enough to reach product-market fit — plus full access to features on Amplitude's paid Growth plan, including Behavioral Cohorts, Pathfinder, advanced collaboration features, and more.
To request access to add-ons like Insights and Portfolio, email scholarship@amplitude.com.
I haven't heard back about my application — when can I expect a response?
Email scholarship@amplitude.com if you haven't heard back about your application or approval.
Can I move the Scholarship plan from one organization to another?
Yes. Email scholarship@amplitude.com to request the move.
What happens if we go over the limit?
You can lower your MTU volume the following month, or start a 30-day Growth plan trial to decide whether to upgrade for more event volume. If you go over the event limit more than twice, Amplitude downgrades your account to the Free plan.
What happens after our one-year scholarship ends?
You can either upgrade to the Growth plan or return to the Free plan, which includes 50,000 MTUs and core analytics features. Amplitude provides an extra 30 days to trial Growth while you decide. A sales rep typically reaches out around month 11. To learn more proactively, contact global-sdr@amplitude.com.
Amplitude can't grant extensions past one year for the Scholarship.
What if we want to go back to the Free plan?
If you choose the Free plan, your account changes from Scholarship to Free after the 30-day trial ends. You aren't billed if you don't upgrade. You don't need to contact Amplitude to downgrade.
Are onboarding resources included?
Yes. Amplitude provides self-serve onboarding materials when your Scholarship starts.
What if I have other questions?
Email scholarship@amplitude.com.
