Save segments

Save a segment to reuse its conditions in other analyses. Everyone on your team can use saved segments. Save one segment as an Advanced Segment when you want to reuse it as a filter within another segment. Save all segments on a chart together as a Classic Segment when you want to reuse that comparison.

Save a segment

On the segment, click the ⋮ menu and select Create Saved Segment. Amplitude saves it as an Advanced Segment, which uses the format and functionality of the advanced segment builder.

Advanced Segments have these limitations:

  • You can't save a segment that includes an interval cohort.
  • You can save only one segment at a time. To save multiple segments together, create a Classic Segment.

Add a saved segment to a chart

Choose one of these ways to add a saved segment:

  • As a new segment: Click + Add Segment, then Use Saved Segment. Choose a segment from the Advanced or Classic tab.
  • As a filter on an existing segment: Click + Filter, then Use Saved Segment. You can use only Advanced Segments as filters.

An Advanced Segment appears on the chart as a pill. Hover over the pill to view the segment's full definition. You can use Advanced Segments in Event Segmentation, Funnels, Data Tables, Metrics Explorer, and Sessions.

Classic vs. Advanced Segments

Before Advanced Segments and the advanced segment builder, Amplitude saved segments in the same structure they had on charts. These are Classic Segments. They work in all chart types, but you can add them only as new segments. You can't use them as filters within an existing segment. When you select a Classic Segment, Amplitude expands its full definition on the chart.

To save the segments on your chart as a Classic Segment, click + Add Segment, then Use Saved Segment. Open the Classic tab and click Create Classic Segment. Amplitude saves all segments currently on the chart together.

Amplitude plans to migrate all Classic Segments to the Advanced format, leaving one saved segment type without Classic and Advanced labels.

Set a default segment

Your default segment loads whenever you create a new chart. To set one, open the saved segment list and click Set as default next to the segment's name. The default applies only to you.
