At Amplitude, our Digital Analytics Platform enables companies to build better products and experiences. What's the power behind our products? Our people!
In our Meet the Ampliteer series, we amplify their stories and honor their achievements in shaping data-driven success.
This series installment spotlights Grace Lynch, senior global communications manager and recent winner of Amplitude’s Values Award for Humility.
Tell us about yourself, your role at Amplitude, and your journey to where you are today.
I am an East Coaster who can’t quit the West Coast. Growing up outside of Boston, I knew I wanted to experience a different environment for college, which led me to UCLA. After graduating, I returned to Boston but traveled frequently to the Bay Area to visit friends and occasionally to pitch new business for the PR agency where I started my career.
I’ve spent almost a decade in the Public Relations (PR) and Communications world, and every day is a different adventure, which I love. In the past two and a half years at Amplitude, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my comms skill set more than I could have ever imagined, and I’m so grateful to this team for helping me do that!
How does your work contribute to Amplitude’s mission of helping companies build better products and experiences? Can you tell us about a project you're particularly proud of?
My work helps spread the word about Amplitude! Whether through our company announcements, executive thought leadership, or telling our customers’ stories with the press or on stage, our goal is to make more companies aware of Amplitude and why they should trust us to help them build better products.
One recent project I’m particularly proud of is the launch of our Product 50, the list of the world's top product and growth leaders. This is a rewarding project for a few reasons. One, it’s a chance to work cross-functionally with our content, brand design, customer advocacy, customer success, and sales teams. It has many moving parts, but seeing everyone unite around a common goal is awesome. In this case, we aim to raise Amplitude awareness while celebrating the best and the brightest in product and growth. Second, it’s easy to forget the people you’re celebrating are just that—people. Receiving messages of thanks and appreciation from them makes all the work the team does worth it. These winners also give great advice to aspiring product leaders, which you can check out here.
At Amplitude, we value humility, ownership, and a growth mindset. How do these values shape your approach to work?
I’ve never resonated with a company’s core values more than I do with Amplitude’s. These values are particularly important when we’re preparing for a product launch. These launches are extremely cross-functional, and approaching the planning meetings with a balance of ownership of the PR strategy while keeping an open mind and a willingness to learn has been the most effective approach to launch strategy and execution.
We admire Ampliliteers who go above and beyond for our customers and the business. What inspires you to be extraordinary in your role at Amplitude?
I love the rigor of comms work—there is little room for error. But I also love the rigor of our work at Amplitude overall. Our team exemplifies the quote, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” Witnessing how teams across the business come together, not for their own or their individual team’s goals, but to create positive outcomes for our company overall, is incredibly motivating.
High-performing teams are a hallmark of Amplitude's culture. Can you highlight a colleague or team that exemplifies our commitment to excellence?
Easily Darah Easton, Amplitude’s head of comms. But this is not just a “my boss is great” post. Darah is excellent at what she does, whether that is PR, internal comms, crisis comms, or working with our social media legend, Rebecca Hendrickson. But that’s not why she exemplifies our commitment to excellence. Darah’s commitment to our core values and her ability to uplevel the work of every team is what makes her such a critical leader at Amplitude. She continually shows her humility and growth mindset in looking to learn from every project, and ownership is never in doubt when she’s involved.
Working at Amplitude often changes the way we view digital products and experiences. Can you share a product that continues to delight you or you can't live without?
Truer words have never been spoken. Whenever I have a bad digital experience, I am hyper-attentive to precisely what went wrong. I credit (and blame!) Amplitude for making me this way!
Right now, the digital product I can’t live without is my Oura ring. I’m a relatively new user (about five months in), and I’ve been blown away by the level of detail in health tracking and over-time comparison capabilities. The main reason I got it was to track my sleep stats to improve my rest and recovery, where I have found I am a work in progress! Fun fact: Our former chief product officer, Justin Bauer, influenced me to buy the Oura ring. In his words, everyone is trying to “hack” something, so why not hack the most important thing you do: sleep.
