At Amplitude, our digital analytics platform enables companies to build better products. So what’s the power behind our products? It’s our people!

In our #MeetTheAmpliteer series, we’re amplifying their stories and honoring their achievements in shaping data-driven success.

This installment of the series spotlights Jennifer Rudin, Senior Data Strategist and recent winner of Amplitude’s Values Award for Ownership.

Tell us about yourself, your role in powering Amplitude, and your personal journey that brought you to where you are today?

As a proud Amplitude power user, I turn to our product every day to:

  • Understand how our customers use our product
  • Build curated audiences for the growth marketing team to send targeted messages for driving activation, retention, and monetization
  • Support my colleagues on how to use Amplitude more successfully for their data needs. Data literacy is challenging. Data terminology is so unique across all business units. I take pride in tackling this challenge by relating data to my personal end-user interactions in the product.

The more I use Amplitude, the better I can trace my digital footprint, a.k.a. my “user paths,” to identify which event and corresponding properties were triggered at the time of the action. I can then translate this information to my colleagues to grasp the “meaning” behind the underlying data we use to track our product usage. This is meta, I know.

I also used Amplitude as a customer, prior to joining the company. That’s where I developed a passion for interpreting the JSON code snippets of end-user interactions in a product into meaningful information for my colleagues to confidently adopt in their analyses.

How does your role at Amplitude allow you to contribute to the company's mission of helping companies bring "Power to their Products"? Can you share an example of a particularly impactful project you've worked on?

As a product user and data strategist at Amplitude, I help build template analyses for teams to adopt Amplitude and glean faster insights at scale. This year I am supporting our internal “Project Champagne,” which emphasizes the need to drive more data confidence and increase product usage across our go-to-market business units. We are empowering our sales and customer success reps to answer critical data questions about their organization’s product usage in self-serve template dashboards.

We are also cleaning up our internal taxonomy to increase the usability and readability of our data, as well as to maximize awareness of and build confidence around which events and properties to select when building a chart. We are refining our taxonomy to power the internal adoption of our product.

Amplitude's cultural values of humility, ownership, and growth mindset are foundational to the company's success. How do you embody these values in your work?

When someone seeks help using our internal “Amplitude on Amplitude” data, I feel inspired to investigate which underlying data points will support them in their data inquiry. I have developed a strong data literacy when it comes to our product data, and I am a passionate advocate for drinking our own champagne at Amplitude. I also continue to challenge myself in learning automation tools such as Tray.io to build point-to-point integrations to support data needs throughout our marking tech stack.

I often ask myself “If I can’t wrap my head around this concept, then how can others fully understand it,”” and that’s what drives me to act as a liaison between interpreting and explaining how certain data points function in our product data.

Amplitude offers a variety of benefits and perks to its employees. Which has made the biggest difference for you in your wellness and well-being?

While I greatly appreciate our monthly wellness stipend, the #1 thing I love most about Amplitude’s benefits is its culture of employee recognition. Whether it’s direct recognition, public kudos, or quarterly value awards, our company and more importantly our people, always go the extra mile to recognize each other for the impact we make. This is the most rewarding company differentiator for me.

What is the #1 thing that most enables you to do your best work at Amplitude?

The people. So many individuals inspire me to learn more every day. It’s exciting when my teammates suggest a new idea for how to approach analysis or how to look at data, which ignites my curiosity to execute that new idea. And the viral feedback loops we generate throughout our company with continual product iterations empower me to test out new features and help “drive” the product roadmap. It is incredibly rewarding to feel that connection and impact across business units.

We know that music can be a powerful motivator. What song or artist do you turn to when you need an extra boost of energy to power through a tough project or challenge at work?

Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now :)
