What skill or trait do you value most in your teammates and why?

I’m a big fan of accountability. And you can’t talk about accountability without talking about trust, so those two things go together for me. When people feel accountable to one another and have deep trust in one another, great things happen. You’re not afraid to be open and honest. You hold each other accountable, which is super important in teaming.

What is your favorite Amplitude value?

The world’s moving too fast not to rethink conventional wisdom and adapt. And so I love that we practice a growth mindset here—it’s one of the most important things you can take into every day.

What’s the best career advice you ever received, and how does it still impact you today?

Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Early in my career, I felt like I never wanted to ask for help because if I did, then it meant that it was something I didn’t know. As I’ve gone through my career, I’ve realized that having the humility to ask for help is important. And I’ve also carried that into my personal life. It certainly works in the professional environment, but in the personal environment as well. Being vulnerable and asking for help is a sign of strength.

What about someone that’s trying to make it to the C-suite? What advice would you give them to reach that career goal proactively?

Cultivate your network. Nobody gets into these positions without a lot of help, a little luck, and a decent amount of hard work in between. I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of people who have helped me along the way. So cultivate your network. You might find that you’ve worked at multiple companies over the years, but your network is something that consistently stays with you. Find one or many mentors in your network and soak up all the information they can provide from their experiences. And then pass it back on. There’s this exciting point in your career where you move from being a mentee in many scenarios to being a mentor. Make sure that you pay it forward for the next round of executives.

What is your favorite part about working at Amplitude?

By far and away, my favorite thing about working here is the ability to work with customers and impact their mission. I love having the opportunity to engage with a very diverse set of customers. We have big customers, small customers, and every size in between. Some come from longstanding industries, whereas others are only three-month-old companies. One of the fantastic things about working here is that we drive real impact for this variety of customers, and how they engage their own customers and grow their customer base.

Why should someone join the sales team at Amplitude?

There are many great reasons to join the sales team at Amplitude. First, we have incredible talent, so you get to join a winning team. Second, we get to impact customer outcomes. We have a tremendous platform that has a lot of value for our customers and many fans. So you get to work deeply with customers and create a lot of impact for them, which is always rewarding. And third, we like to have fun. This is a great place to come and have a good time. We are serious. We’re here to do serious things and drive serious outcomes, but at the same time, we enjoy our time together and have a lot of fun.
