Amplitude + OpenAI: Get New Insights in ChatGPT via MCP
Your next great product decision could start with a simple prompt.
Dashboards have their place, but they aren’t really where teams start anymore. Instead, most people are getting fast, simple answers to their data questions using AI assistants and LLMs.
That’s why today, we’re excited to announce that the Amplitude MCP server is now natively accessible in OpenAI. That means anyone using OpenAI can now easily connect to their Amplitude instance and get instant access to all the questions they have about their customers. They’ll be able to use plain language to explore the drivers behind customer conversion, retention, and churn.
Why do you need an MCP connector?
AI can find available data and report it back, giving teams fast, simple answers to their questions. But it doesn’t inherently know how to analyze complex datasets to explain why users behave the way they do or find insights buried in product usage data.
Answering these complex questions requires the functionality of analytics tools like Amplitude. Without a technological connection between the tools teams prefer to use and the contextual data they need to answer questions, the analysis process can break down.
This disconnect is why we worked to make sure Amplitude supported Model Context Protocol (MCP), which we announced in October. We wanted to make product and marketing analytics accessible wherever teams work. We believe in removing technological barriers to product data to make it as easy as possible for every team to understand user behavior. MCP gives Amplitude customers fast and easy insights, delivered using their favorite tools.
How does it work?
This new connector pairs OpenAI’s conversational interface with Amplitude’s depth in behavioral analytics. The result is a faster, clearer path from question to insight without the traditional barriers.
All you need is an Amplitude account and an OpenAI account. Click on the connector in OpenAI, confirm the connection, and you’re set. It’s as easy as your prompt-based analysis is about to be.
For product and marketing teams, this unlocks real-time insights that will be critical to growing your business. Without the bottleneck of technology that requires specialized data skills, team members from anywhere in an organization can validate ideas, explore user behavior, and receive recommendations for next steps.

This launch moves us closer to our goal of making product insights available in functional, everyday work tools. By bringing Amplitude capabilities directly to OpenAI users, we’re giving teams a simpler way to access contextual data exactly when and where they need it. We are genuinely excited to see what teams do with this new level of access.
Amplitude's MCP server is now available as a native connector in OpenAI products like ChatGPT. Try it out to see what new insights you can discover with natural language plus analytics.
